Celebrating a Legacy of Leadership in Entrepreneurial Identity & Traits

The National Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education (EntreEd), also known as NC|EEd, is proud to recognize Dr. Gene Coulson with the honorary title of Emeritus Board Member. This appointment celebrates his decades of service and his lasting impact on the field of entrepreneurship education.

Dr. Coulson has spent his career advancing the development of entrepreneurial identity and traits in students and educators. His work has focused on fostering initiative, creativity, adaptability, and personal agency in learners, and on creating systems that encourage entrepreneurial thinking across all subjects and grade levels.

Chad Rieflin, Board President of EntreEd, shared his enthusiasm about Dr. Coulson’s appointment to the board:

“Dr. Coulson has always served as a harbinger for change in the entrepreneurship education field. We are thankful for all of the experience and vast capabilities that it brings to the table to advance the great work of EntreEd!”

Dr. Coulson brings over 47 years of experience in K–12 education, including 28 years with the West Virginia Department of Education, where he led initiatives in Career and Technical Education. He later served as Executive Director of EntreEd, guiding the organization through key partnerships, programmatic growth, and national recognition. 

As an Emeritus Board Member, Dr. Coulson will continue to provide guidance and support in a non-governing advisory role. The designation affirms his continued connection to the organization and honors the foundation he helped build. In this role, Dr. Coulson will also assist in shaping the future of the field by contributing to the review and development of National Entrepreneurship Education Standards, ensuring they remain relevant, rigorous, and responsive to the evolving needs of learners and educators.
